VIRGINIA “GINNY” L. MEIER

VIRGINIA “GINNY” L. MEIER
Virginia “Ginny” L Meier, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 23,2023, at the Clark County Living and Rehabilitation Center in Owen.
Virginia Louise Winter was born Nov. 15,1939, in the Town of Grant, the daughter of Celon and Alma (Scharf) Winter. She attended the Granton School system and graduated in 1958. On Oct. 17, 1959, she united in marriage to William Meier. They lived in the Neillsville area for a few years before moving to Stevens Point for a short while and eventually moved to Tomahawk in 1966. She worked as a server in a local restaurant, before getting a job as a teller in the local bank. She loved to interact and talk to people. In 1976, the family moved back to Neillsville. In October 1976, she started working for 1st National Bank, which eventually was bought by M&I and then BMO-Harris. She worked for the bank until she retired in 2005. People would go through the drive-through window just to talk with her and see that beautiful smile she always shared.
Once retired, Ginny loved to take care of her flowers, do jigsaw puzzles, golf, bowl, play games, read and keep up with all the activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. She loved to travel to see them when the possibility presented itself. Weekends in the fall were one of her favorite times to watch football - the Packers and any game that was on. She was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church. She also was a volunteer greeter at the Neillsville Hospital until COVID hit in 2020 and that was not an option anymore. It was just another chance to share a smile and a friendly word with people she came in contact with. She had some very special friends –her daughter, Donna, who was her best friend and made sure she was well cared for, her puzzling buddy and the ladies from St John’s who spent time with her nearly every Monday.
Ginny is survived by her children, Bradley (Sandra) Meier and Donna Meier, both of Neillsville, Douglas (Lisa) Meier of Fertile MN, and Darrell (Ruth-Ann) Meier of Two Rivers, WI; six grandchildren; eight Greatgrandchildren; a brother, Roger (Dawn) Winter of Janesville, WI; a sister-in-law, Elaine (Chuck) Glassbrenner of Neillsville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Dolly, and her husband Bud Rechsteiner, and a brother-in-law, Allen, and his wife Margie Meier.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday morning prior to the service at the church.
