Milton Everett Garbisch passed away peacefully at his son John’s home in Auburndale, WI, Sunday, May 10, 2026, surrounded by his family and listening to “It Is Well With My Soul.”
Milton was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Granton, WI, to Alfred and Viola Garbisch. He attended the Romadka one-room school and later graduated from Granton High School in 1959. During his school years, he served as vice president of the FFA and showed animals through 4-H.
Milton attended University of Wisconsin–Platteville, where he was the yearbook editor, and University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he met the love of his life, Nancy S. Garbisch (McIntyre). They were married June 10, 1967, at Ebenezer Moravian Church in Watertown, WI.
After college, Milton and Nancy moved to Minnesota, where their son, John Mark Garbisch, was born in 1968. Milton worked for Ernst & Ernst accounting firm in St. Paul.
In 1973, Milton returned to Granton with his family, where he worked as a CPA, assessor and seed-corn dealer while building a life on the family farm on Tree Road.
Milton’s faith in Jesus Christ was central to his life. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as church treasurer for many years. An avid lover of music, he played saxophone and accordion and loved to sing. He was a devoted member of the Clark County Male Chorus for 45 years.
Milton loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed working in the woods making firewood, producing maple syrup and planting fruit trees in his orchard. He also enjoyed traveling and visited 48 states and nine Canadian provinces throughout his life.
Known for his kindness, gentleness and loving spirit, Milton deeply valued helping others and serving his community. He took great pride in his family and treasured time spent raising his grandchildren, Alex John Garbisch and Joni Kristina Garbisch.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Lewis Garbisch and Viola Emma (Wittke) Garbisch.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, John; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Virginia (David) Olson, Eileen (Richard) Smith, Roger (Lois) Garbisch and Janice (Roger) Hamilton.
His steady faith, gentle nature and servant’s heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Windfall Cemetery in Granton.
