MARY LANGRECK

Our beloved  mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Langreck, has passed from this world to eternity with Christ on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at the age of 87.

     Mary was born April 11, 1939, to Walter and Mabel (Squire) Aumann in Neillsville.  She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1957.

     Mary was united in marriage to Anton Langreck at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville July 13, 1957.  They shared 69 years together before Anton’s passing in April 2026.

     During the early years of their life together, Mary was a stay-at-home mom.  With Anton working out of town much of the time, she ran the household; she was mother and father during the week.  There are vivid memories of mom keeping a list of offenses for dad to take care of when he got home.  That list certainly helped to keep the children in line!  Always willing to help others, she looked after her grandmother and later her parents as well as babysitting for nephews.  She was named after her grandma Mary Aumann and was very close to her.  This special relationship in turn created a unique bond between her children and her grandmother.  She was a wonderful example of sharing the love of Christ.  As the children grew older, Mary worked at the WildCat Inn for several years in the kitchen on weekends and cleaning on Monday.  Mary had a caring and compassionate nature.  She had always wanted to be a nurse.  She took a step toward this by becoming a CNA.  She worked for Memorial Medical Center nursing home for 32 years sharing her care and compassion with the residents.  When her mother passed in 1978, she made sure her dad was taken care of.  Her kids have fond memories of grandpa coming every night for supper.  After retirement, she continued doing private care work.  She volunteered at the Senior Center and was an active member of St. Mary’s PCCW.

     Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed a variety of genres.  Her favorite book was “Gone with the Wind.”  As her eyesight faded, she continued her reading hobby with audio books.  She listened to 10 books a week!  She enjoyed the theater—especially musicals—traveling and socializing with friends and family.  She planned many bus trips to the FireSide Theater in Fort Atkinson allowing many others to enjoy the theater without the hassle of planning and driving.  “Fiddler on the Roof” was one of her favorite musicals.  She was a diehard Liberace fan.  She and Anton were able to attend a Liberace concert in Las Vegas.  Mom loved it…dad tolerated it with rolling eyes!  They went to see CATS together.  Mom bought a video of it as dad only lasted until intermission!  She enjoyed the production many times from the comfort of her living room.  They both did enjoy traveling together across the country.  They enjoyed visiting various shrines across the country.  Holy Hill was a favorite.  They also treasured the trips to San Antonio to visit Butch and his family.  Mary was always willing to tour the caterpillar factory or a tractor museum on their adventures.  Mary enjoyed cross stitching.  She made many beautiful tablecloths, pillowcases and table runners.  When grandkids came, she stitched beautiful baby blankets.

     Mary was easy going and had an underestimated sense of humor.  She will be remembered for her commitment to family and faith, her strong work ethic and her selfless giving of herself to others.  She will be deeply missed by many.                           Mary is survived by her children: Toni Bravener, Carolyn (Allen) Berrett, Lois (Randy) Montgomery, Michael (Barb) Langreck.  She is further survived by grandchildren: Jeannie (Aaron) Symicek, Jason Bravener, Kevin (Jenny) Bravener, Ryan (Jenny) Anason, Nicholas Hause, Lucas Hause, Kayla (Nathan) Rooney, Justin (Breana) Langreck, John (Courtney) Langreck, Hannah Langreck, and Marcella Langreck.  She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Riley and Samantha Symicek, Lana, Mila, Nora and Josey Langreck, Walter Hause, Noah, Isaiah, Benjamin and Abigail Anason, Heidi, Eviana, Lucia, Suket and Musa Rooney.  She is further survived by her brother, Walter Aumann; sister-in-law, Diane (John) Nowak; brother-in-law, Francis (Bonnie) Langreck; sister-in-law, Pat Langreck, as well as many nieces and nephews.

     She is preceded in death by her husband, Anton; parents, Walter and Mable (Squire) Aumann; in-laws, Francis and Marcella (Schaefer) Langreck; infant son, John; son, Butch Langreck; son-in-law, Danny Bravener; brother, Charlie Aumann; sister-in-law, Ellen Aumann; and brother-in-law, Eugene Langreck.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to supporting audio books for the blind.

     A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Neillsville.  Visitation was held at the church from 9 a.m. to the start of the Mass.  A rosary was said for Mary beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the church.  Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Neillsville.  Honorary pallbearers included granddaughters; Jeannie Symicek, Kayla Rooney, Hannah Langreck and Macie Langreck.
