MARK JOHN JURGAITIS

 

     Mark John Jurgaitis passed away peacefully Oct. 11, 2023, at the age of 81 in West Milwaukee, WI. He was born Nov. 16, 1941, in Waukegan, IL, to John Paul and Dolores June Hinkel Jurgaitis.

     Mark was a loving husband to his wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth (Irving). They married in San Francisco, CA, June 25, 1966. He was a devoted father to his six children, Jonathan (Nikki) Jurgaitis, Aaron (Heather) Jurgaitis, Joshua (Michelle)

Jurgaitis, Elisabeth (Paul) Bentti, Sarah (Benjamin) Willis and Adam (Meghan)

Jurgaitis. He was also a proud grandfather to his 15 grandchildren, AnneMarie, Chase, Jackson, Nathan, Eli, Collier, Holden, Sierra, Noah, Tabitha, Aiden, Carson, Harper, Reece and Chloe.

     Mark was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Naval War College in

Newport, RI, as a yeoman. While in the Navy he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, 3rd Class. He graduated from UW-Whitewater with an MBA in finance.

     Mark enjoyed all activities having to do with the water, playing ice hockey in his youth, sailing on Lake Michigan, swimming in the summer with his children, sledding in the winter with all of his children, and in his later years, kayaking in the local lakes around Neillsville, WI. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years as a Boy Scout leader, going on camping trips with his sons’ troops.

     Mark was devoted to his church and, at the age of 77, completed a 12-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife, Mary, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was passionate about classical music and literature. He was known for being able to talk at great length on most any subject with most any person.

     Mark is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Jonathan, Aaron, Josh, Elisabeth, Sarah, and Adam; and all of his 15 grandchildren. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dolores; and his sister, Susan.

     A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house located at 9600 West Grange Avenue, Hales Corners, WI, on Oct. 28, 2023, with visitation at 2 p.m. and a memorial service at 3 p.m.
